Accidents While Abroad
If you have an accident outside of Singapore, but within the geographical coverage of your policy (usually West Malaysia or up to 80 kilometres inside Thailand), please call MARS immediately (+65 6333 2222).
The MARS Representative will provide you with all of the help you need. They also will record the accident details and all necessary information to support your car insurance claim to Allianz. Our phone claims lines are open 24hrs a days, 365 days a year.
Note: Any car accidents occurring in Malaysia MUST be reported to the Malaysian Police.
If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident while you are travelling abroad, we recommend that you check the General Insurance Association (GIA) Advisory on making a claims against a foreign motorist.
In summary, the advisory advises motorists to claim against their own policies, if they have a comprehensive policy, in instances of accidents with foreign motorists in either Singapore or Malaysia. This would save them the inconvenience of making a claim against motorists from another country. However, if motorists wish to make a third-party motor claim against insurers in Malaysia, motorists are advised to seek recourse directly with the insurer concerned. The documents required are outlined in detail in the advisory.

Please note that our Private Motor Policy usually provides coverage within the following geographical areas:

b) For transit by sea, only during direct sea route across
- the straits between Penang and the mainland of West Malaysia
- the straits between Changi Point, Singapore and Tanjong Belungkor, Johore.
Please check your policy for more details.
Keep well and drive safely!
